Windshield Repair Forum

Looking for a little help here. I have noticed that sometimes after completing a repair, it looks very nice from the outside of the vehicle, but when you are on the inside of the vehicle looking out, it looks much worse. Any advice here. I am using Delta resin and Pit filler. Thank You very much.....Rory

Reflection and a darker background helps the look of the repair from the outside but from the inside any imperfection in the repair will be highlighted. This should have been greatly reduced from its original damaged condition. If the driver was aware of the condition before you started and you brief him on what to expect,then there should not be a problem.

Rory.. you are making a statement many new people to this industry make..wr repair is just that..repair..it is to save the window from further damage and replacement..that said we all would like it to look as cosmetically good as possible..many look great...hardly noticiable...but alas..some don't..sorry many don't..there is scars and thats the nature of wr..that is why you must come to terms with wr or seek another avenue of endeaver..me i love wr even after 20 yrs..i love meeting new people and performing a service for them and recieving payment and they are quite happy about the experience..never oversell the apperance..tell them it will look 80% better and if they can be happy with that then do the repair...I have found only a handfull of people anal retentive when it comes to apperance ..my 3 cents(inflation)

When you're working on the repair from the outside, be sure to look at it from as many angles as you can, air pockets can appear concealed from certain viewpoints.

Also, if you aren't using a mirror, I would suggest employing one in future repairs--- they'll help reflect more light onto the repair, plus give you a clear view of the break from INSIDE the windshield. Saves a bit of commute time.

I have to agree with Mr. Chip here. No matter how good you are, you can only do so much with certain breaks. This service is not a glass manufacturing process and some repairs even though 100% structurally sound, leave more of a blemish than others.

As for viewing from the inside, remember that the light is refracting through the outer & inner pane of glass so it will look different. I have stopped using percentages to give a customer an idea of how much better the repair will be becuase there is easy way to measure a percentage. Instead have them look at the damage and tell them it will be dramatically better but wont disappear. This will be something they can see.

Another thing to keep in mind once you are sure it is repaired correctly. You should view it from a normal seated position in the vehicle not at an up close odd angle. After all that is not how someone will be driving. You may find it does not look so bad.

Agreed on the point of view idea, many times I tell the customer that because of the damage location they may want to rethink the repair idea due to the fact that the repair is permenent and they MAY have to look at it for a long time, I throw in the "or you could have a catistrophic event in the next day or so, it may be better than the replacement idea also.... murphys law... most folks will choose repair at that point, I then do what I can to improve appearance as much as I am able. Most are satisfied.
