Hi...I've encountered more and more previous repairs recently.... OK, so does it still hold true that no reputable repair tech. should attempt to "RE" repair... This is beginning to anger me the bad reapirs that is... Thoughts please...

My rule of thumb is to "inform" and "educate" the customer of why the repair previously done, failed.. Then, if I can see a way to actually re-do the repair I will. Not all repairs will give you an opportunity to re-do them. Sometimes a bullseye will still have a ring around it or a portion not filled. Its simple enough to drill and tap a small bullseye for access and fill it. Or if its a star with a leg still open, drill the tip of the leg and back fill it.. I also inform the customer that I will only warranty my work for 30 days, due to the unknowing if the previous repair was done using a quality resin. If a cheap resin was used it will continue to break down.. On average I'd have to say its a 50-50 number that can actually be re-repaired with results that are satisfying..

We also see allot of hack jobs. Like Glassdoc said, at that point you have regain the customers confidence in WSR through education and if possible a re-repair.

It is so aggravating to get to a job only to find it was done before or at a dealership that gets a car in with hack job done. It is so easy to do quality WSR work it really makes me wonder about the people doing these hack jobs.

It is sad the way this industry is, anyone can have a dog and pony show and go the road for few bits. It is a shame becuase I do not for see a possible solution without regulations being implemented and even then who will enforce it? No one! You might get more insurance work though.
