For any that are not on any networks and bill the insurance company direct. How long does it take to get paid and do you get short paid?

Just thinking about direct billing the insurance co's give me a headache. I used to do this when I first started out. Damned if I would let someone decide what I should be paid. Well let me tell you, my experience with direct billing was very successful with regard to getting paid what I charged. That is were success ended though as it was a lot of aggravation staying on top of it. That includes short pays which required follow ups for supplemental payments, invoice kickbacks and long waits for your money(usually 45-90). Quite often the invoices would just be forwarded to the network which is where the aggravation usually stemed from. You might get lucky if you are dealing with small insurance companies that dont play with the networks.
I decided that the small dollar ammount difference between my retail and what some network insurance rates are was not enough to make all the time staying on top of our invoices worthwhile. My time is very valuble and just did not see the value in it after awhile. So I decided to sign on with the networks, not for the referrals(although they are nice as gravy money) but to make my life easier and provide the billing option to our customers.
To each there own, so if you must try it buy some asprin!!!! Yeah, good luck with this and let us know how it goes.
