looked into eye glass scratch repair?

I am just wandering? Seems like this is an area many of us could us as a selling point.

Eye glasses with differant frames ca be very expensive.

Mine are 400 bucks. I get two sets a year as I am always cleaning them. The small scratches drive me nuts.

The eye glass folks say they can not be fixed. I KNOW they are wrong.

When I was at the Arizona state fair a guy was selling a polymer that was put on and then UV lighted.

3 mins latter I had a brand new looking set of glasses. I lost his sells material. Just it worked fine. Did not alter my prescription or anything.

Anyone have experiance in this?

Is this the virtual version of talking and answering yourself?

Na, I thought I had edited the post to include the last comment.

I only talk to my self when I need real answers.

Was down in Mexico and they polished scratches out of a pair of glasses in the lab. So it can be done. Probably the scratch resistant coating on most lenses would have to be removed for this to work. Just as on a headlight lens. I have a couple pair of old glasses and thought I would try it sometime but keep putting it off. Maybe in the next few weeks I'll try it.

I wonder if dvlups clear coat would work for that?

I hate droppin 400 bucks for a set of lenses. The frames can be cheap, but anyone that wares glasses knows the racket they play.

I would not be supprised to see eye glass scratch repair to be a multi million dollar a year service. Just give it time. It will take folks smaryer then ne to come up with a process that will work. Not like glass doctor that in a week the lens turns yellow.

Give them time. They will come up with it. When they do. I am going to run like hell with it.

Try doing a online search under "eye glass lens repair" and you'll find quite a few DIY kits available!

Personally, I'd prefer to leave my customers eye glasses just as they are and not restore them...repairs always look better! :-)

I have done my searches and tried some products. The stuff the guy used in Arizona at the fair is the only one I have seen work.

Lens crafters is full every day here I mean full. They say the lenses can not be fixed. Once it is scratched it is scratched. I have tried many differant products. NONE have worked like the on from Arizona state fair.

I and the wife both ware glasses. Both get two sets a year as we clean them alot.

That is 1750 bucks a year just for bew LENSES. To replace that only have scratches in them.

Our prescriptions have not changed.

I too quite frequently get requests for this service. Always turn it down, but maybe I'll have to experiment someday. I would worry about altering the prescription. Daytrader, you are right. Get in with 10 or 20 Lenscrafter's and you'll make some good cash.
