We are opening a replacement glass company after the owner has been out of the business for 10 years. I need to know how to estimate and what the expenses are.

Re: newglassguy
For replacements I recommend a good software package or an online application like eDirectGlass. Unlike eDirect lite for windshield repair, eDirectGlass offers a free billing package, so it's a very popular option.
Then contact your local auto glass supplier and negotiate pricing. Survey your local market to see what other shops are charging, then use that information combined with your pricing and projected overhead to determine what percentage you will offer off of the NAGS (list) price. NAGS pricing is built in to all billing packages, so you can simply plug in a percentage and be able to instantly quote any piece of glass in just about any vehicle.
It's far easier than it used to be before we had software to calculate, not only the glass, but also the moldings, clips, urethane, primers, and just about everything else you will need to replace the glass. Your glass supplier may also be able to help you decide what kind of software or online application will best fit your needs.
