Insurance Question

Hey All, New to the forum, but I think Ill be hanging out for a while. I worked as a Safelife Repair Medic for a few years and now Im thinking of going out on my own. All the years Ive worked in the Glass feild Ive never bothered to understand to much of the Insurance end of the whole thing. So now Im trying to ge up to speed.

My question is,, From what I knew about safelite, most of the time there insurance work was just electronicly sent to them every day from the insurance companies and the first time safelite talked to the actual custumer was when Id call them in the morning and set up a time to do the work. Now, how does someone starting out on there own in this feild obtain that type of transaction? Im guessing it takes time and a good reputation?

My other question is,, If a customer calls me (the repair man) with a damaged windshield and has comprehensive insurance, how do I do about processing his/her claim myself and get paid for the work?

If anyone knows how the whole thing works please let me know. Thanks in advance for your feedback. Brennan :D :D :D

You will find many anwsers on the forum about this. Most guys I know in the business use a billing company or billing software. In my opinion, for someone starting out Autoglass Claims Teams is a good gig. It can be pricey, but worth it, as they will set you up with most insurance companies.

Hey Windshield Doc, Thanks for the reply. Since I posted these questions, Ive actually found a ton of useful into on the forum about this topic. I will check out what you suggested, but I am looking to keep things fairly cheep(exept for a kit of course) at the momment until I get up and running at a good pace. I will be posting another question about cash jobs, if you'd like to respond to that one as well. Thanks again pal.
