Repair Whilst It's Raining?

One of the many benefits of repairing windscreens is you spend all day outside in the glorious sunshine, the only disadvantage is having to use UV blockers. If you like in the UK everyday is usually much different to this and sunshine is but a distant dream, its cold, and wet! Even during the summer months with last year been a perfect example.

Problem, how do you repair a windscreen outside when rain is running down the glass, into the damage? If you are unable to get the vehicle under cover do you come back another day? If you do thats an additional cost and your planned revenue for that day is lost, in reallity this is often the case, I carry out a lot of commercial fleet work and rarely am I able to repair during heavy rain. I have often thought there must be a solution for this, windsreen repairs have been around for years now, somebody must have a solution, all my surmising was to no avail, I looked and looked and looked and have even tried inventing my own which works ok but not very well. I ended up putting an awning on the side of my van (see my website for details) so that I can at least get a car of small van under cover.

I have had many occasion where the rain has resulted in not been able to carry out repairs, I have lost days and even weeks and ended up with a massive backlog of work.

Any ideas or suggestions gang?

The first thing that comes to my mind is the bubble dome because it has a gasket and suction cups which allows it to remain tight to the windshield, making repairs in rain much easier.

You have limited access to the windshield repair forum until you have 10 posts under your belt. This helps us control the spammers, trouble makers, and those who just want to try to promote their products. You should be able to get e-mail and private messages from Delta Kits employees, so I will send you a photo of the bubble dome that Korey mentioned, and contact information where you can reach us if you have any questions on Monday. After a few more posts you will have the same privileges that the rest of the windshield repair forum members have. You can also click on our logo at the top of the page if you want to see the bubble dome on our website.

As a new member please be sure to review all of the forum guidelines, also accessible by clicking on the Forum Guidelines link in red at the top of the page.

This revolutionary product is definately the best thing since "sliced bread" I purchased one. at the time. of purc hasing my kit from delta.
Its definately a life saver. I chose not to use it one day to see just the advantages and dis-advantage s . Howerver this day the wind was blowing and when I removed my bridge the resin had hardened
From the wind blowing. The next repair I used I and the resin had not premature cured. Haven't got to use it yet in the rain but I know it will live up to its "monsterous seal" I do have a question is the knobs un twist for a reason? Maybe to allow easier removal

The knobs unscrew so you can change out your suction cups if necessary, but under normal use they should last you many years before needing to be replaced.

I have been experimenting with using the rubber for a floor squeegee found at cleaning supply stores. I think the one I purchased is 32" which is more than ample space to curve around the delta injectors. When it rains cars are repaired under the tent but rain still runs off the car roof. So far it has been effective. The one issue I've found is you can't just throw it in the back of your vehicle and let it get all bent up. Gotta keep it flat! Personally I'm not a fan of the dome; I'll stick with the UV covers.

Sounds interesting, how do you hold it in place against the glass?

either lay it flat or set it on its edge. Usually I will stand it on edge against leveling legs area of injector so I can let the excess rubber bend around to protect the perimeter. Crazy idea but I bought to test, sprayed the ws with water and low and behold it worked.

Time2shine, the wind will not cause your resin to set it is the UV that was around, never do a job outside without UV protection, even in the UK in the middle of winter. Got to agree the dome is the tool for wet days.
