Large impact damage question.

Suppose you have a starbreak where the impact point is too big to get a good seal with the injector. (1/4 inch)
You apply pit filler and a cure tab to the impact hole and cure it. Then you drill thru the resin and inject more resin thru the drill hole.
Ok. What happens if the legs of the starbreak became partly filled when you applied the pit filler and now they won't fill the rest othe way?
Drill and pop each leg?

First start by tapping the break between the unfilled section and yur new pit, do this with a blunt punch and your tapper and it should break the leg back into the pit. Takes a bit of courage sometimes, but sure works for me.

Another quick thought on this one, make sure you have your UV light ready to put on the second you have the curing tab over the resin. Do these steps as quick as possible and the resin will not flow so far.

I did that.
It worked on several legs, but I had one where it didnt work.

mr Bill...I don't think pit fill went too far ..never had a problem that i can recal..besides what other other option was there in the first place?..you did the right thing and if you have to drill line to fill then so be it..the repair is finished..too many guys just walk away and leave it half finished..have a great day

I haven't had the problem either, but you could use a higher viscosity resin if that is a concern. Our plate glass resin is considerably thicker than our pit resin and in fact some technicians prefer it for all of their pit fill applications. Others feel it is too thick, but for capping a large pit it works great.

The exciting thing about WSR is just because you have never had the problem does not mean you are not going to get it. I have come across this example many times and always get around it as described.

Let me clarify. I have run across pits that were too large to cover with the end seal on a regular basis, just never had the pit resin flow into the cracks when I used it for a cap. Not saying it can't happen, but the viscosity of our pit resin is 2000cps so it does not flow into anything but an open cavity very easily. Our plate glass resin however is 4500cps, so it is even more unlikely to flow where you don't want it to.
