insurance question

I was talking to a person at my bank today and we got into the topic of winshield repair, they told me a year ago they got a stone chip and they just told their insurance company about it and the insurance company sent someone to fix it. I assume that's what most people would do in that situation is simply call the insurance company. So my question is how do you get to be that company that gets sent out to do the repair?
Maybe an old worn out question but important for all us who want to do insurance work.

Nothing, I mean nothing, should stop you from seeing the insurance brokers in your area. Just go there and introduce yourself and the services you provide. It is the first step to promote yourself at the right places, once the office-people get to know you, and the reports they're going to receive on your work are good, you will be getting some work from those insurance brokers. However, don't wait for the phone to ring bringing in daily work. Remember; any insurance broker is just one of the many influentials. They make no decisions, they advice the customer -nothing more. Do not expect a lot from steering jobs, be pro-active, go out and find the work yourself >it's easy!

I'm not disagreeing with Frank EU' answer, but I'm seeing that when the insured calls the insurance company they are calling a toll free glass claims number for the insurance company. We know who that call goes too, the networks!

LISTEN LISTEN LISTEN LISTEN - contacting brokers will do little - Contact allstate, AIG etc etc etc You must sign up (register as a repair only shop) with them. They will require you to obtain liability insurance (somtimes 1000 dollars - because they lump you with glass replacement shops) you will be placed on a rotating list based largely on your geographic area. PS gieco is EXCLUSIVE with SAFELITE
