d.b.a. or license with is better

i'm going to my city to get a d.b.a. or license witch one is required in Michigan or by the networks also or will either one work. i was quoted $1279.00 for 1 year of $5000.000 lib. ins. with 25% down and about $125.00 a month is this a good price it covers my home office up to $10.000 and a few other things. thank you to anyone who reply's
