I thought this would be an interesting topic that could help everyone out, even the most experienced. Just decribe what has worked best for you...
I found family and friends are great to start with, then their neighbors and their family and friends, just make sure you always to a great job so they dont have a problem referring you to others. its also great to stop at big complexes where you have a lot of vehicles, have the hr person send out a notice that you will be there on such and such a date to do any ones rock chips, i had an aquaintance do this and got just over 40 repairs in one day! Hope others can share good ideas and experiences as well.

About 99% of my work is with car dealerships and fleet accounts. I have (18) accounts I service every week and that keeps me as busy as I want to be, especially in the summer heat.

t4k,
how do you get fleet accounts?
I've never done it before and all i do is door-to-door as well as cold calling which has only brought maybe 3-5 customers a day if lucky.

I found the best way to get fleet accounts is to just walk in the front door. find the office of a trucking company, pest control, cable, car dealership and ask for the fleet manager.... then sell them!

I agree with cleanerimage, you just have to walk in the door, find the right person to talk to and sell yourself.

So do you guys think most fleets in most areas already have someone doing WSR for them, or are fleet accounts still out there for the taking? Also, do you charge their insurance just like for a regular customer or what?

If your fleets over there are anything like ours then they will not have glass insurance. Also some will be using a repair guy and some not, some will have a bad repair guy and some will not, some will be using an unreliable guy and, you get the idea. WSR is about sales get out and find the customers is the only advice I can honestly give, walk the streets, check out the business parks at weekends it gives you a good idea of who has vehicles.
I feel it is impossible for us to give any specific advice on this matter, every area varies in terms of tech coverage and potential customer base. Also I would not want my competition getting an idea of where my quality customers are.
Adverts can work but can also be expensive, walking the streets looking for customers takes time and commitment but is normally the winner.

Fleets is all we do, I for myself don't care for parking lots, dealerships and al that, we just don't focus on non-commercial vehicles.
In the USA most of our fleet customers have no insurance, in The Netherlands.....most have. Insured or not, it does not matter, both are easy to sell.
Just go out and do your best.
