Those of you who have tent locations, how many repairs to you get in a certain time period? I am at my spot 5-6 hours a day, but I keep thinking I should be getting more business.

How many do you get if you spend the same amount of time out calling on potential customers? rather than waiting for them to come to you.

I also to some tent work . I find that I only do 2-5 repairs while in one spot. But I also refer a lot of replacements to glass shops that pay me a small fee for sending a customer . I actually get more of those than I do repairs . there are more people trying to fix a long crack than a rock ship . Yesterday I did 5 so it was a god day . the days that I go around visiting people .I spend a lot of time and gas . and produce few result and feel so bad as people are not very friendly when you walk into their setting and interrupt what they are doing and I aslo find that most buisness have their front door locked and you have to find someone to let you in . ......very frustrating .

Does anyone else have the same problems as the previous poster, maybe it is a case of finding the right customers to call on. Could be an area thing, but I find I get better quality customers and more reliable work out calling. Now take tomorrow for instance I have 2 calls at one I will do 2 to 3 screens and the next the same, now the reason I know this is because I did the same last week and the week before and so on.

A great old saying somebody who does not get on with us anymore used to say was.

Do not wait for your boat to come in swim out and get it.

I would say if a tent is not giving a minimum of 5 or 6 a day then it is time to find another spot.

Are you guys doing FREE! screen repairs or has that stopped like it has over here.

Have had a tent site for many years. Probably 12 -14 or so. When I am busy I make $300 or more a day, average over $200. Busy times are December through February. Then the snowbirds start to go home.

I bought a permanent home here this summer, so I will be looking for more fleet business to fill in when things are slow. Maybe even substitute totally for the tent site. I think it would be a good change of pace for me. As far as numbers of vehicles I think 2-3 is a poor day, 6-8 pretty good and when I get ten to twelve I'm doing great and go home tired.

That said, this year has been terrible. Lost my long term site and moved across the street, then someone else took over my old site and another guy a ways south is doing $20 repairs. $25 across the street. There are seven WSR service tent sites or businesses withing about two to two 1/2 miles. I am moving this Monday to another site, hope it's better. Oh, and they doubled my rent too.

Don't mean to be negative, but things are what they are. If new site doesn't work out I will go mobile only, and I already decided to concentrate more on fleet work anyway so I wouldn't have so many ups and downs. I lived in my RV for 17 years and moved around a lot so tent site was really the only way to go. Not in an area long enough to get solid, steady business from established businesses. I used to do phone work, does anyone have any experience on using the phone instead of driving around all over?

Hi Screenman . I know all about swimming out . I have been trying that for sometime now . I usually have 5 sites I go to on different days . i try to stick to a schedule of being at each one once a week . I was at one today . I did one .....ONE repair . I gave out 25 cards to people that had a chip on their windshield . and either did not have the money .or the time nor wanted to call insurance company . I was SO frustrated. I would have even taken 25 % of those and been happy . My experience has shown me that most people that say they are going to call me back ..Do Not .I only get about 1% that actually call me back . So I got a little pushy trying to shedule or talk people into doing the repair right now . I am not that kind of sale person So it was very uncomfortable .I have not had much luck with posting the Free SIGN EITHER . ALTHOUGH I may try it agian to see if anything changes . normally all I get are people that do not have insurance and have a Unrepairable windshield..My Fleets have crawled to an almost stand stil . I am super frustated.and getting hungry ....lol...

I am trying to keep up beat and stay at it .

Do you think that with you bouncing from site to site on different days may make the customer feel like you are "fly by night" sorta say? Do not take it personally.
Do you feel staying in one spot folks would feel more comfortable working with you?

Hi Chippin....Yea I have thought about that but I also noticed that after being somewhere for about 2-3 days it dies down . So just on trying to stay afloat I move . ...But I have had many people stop because they saw me in other locations .So I am not sure what works the best . I am considering trying to get a spot near a mall and stay till after x-mas and see what happens . I am going to try going door to door buisness in the Ams as most people do not stop at tents during those times . Maybe being in one location for that long wil make a difference ....
