How many of you stll use polish?

Post by hls2010 »

Hi,

I'm new to this forum. I own a small auto detail company that does work for dealerships only. We currently do details and headlight restoration. I'm starting a new business strictly for headlight restoration (mostly retail). For my dealers I don’t use a hard coat, just a wax sealant. I use the different grits of sand paper, compound with wool pad and polish. Now, I know deltakits has a new process that eliminates the use of polish. How many of you still use polish vs. just the 3000 grit without any compound or polish. For does that don’t use a polish anymore, do you get the same results?

hls2010,

Welcome to the forum! As you can see there is a ton information on the forum and technicians from across the world. I am sure that technicians will chime in with their opinions in regards to the polish vs. the 3000 grit polishing disc.

Below is a video showcasing the previous headlight restoration system and steps.

Here is a video detailing the latest headlight restoration system and steps.

I use the polish still. I figured once I use it up and or need to reorder sanding discs I will stop. Its hard for me not to use something I paid for. However it looks like I could cut a couple steps out by not using the polish. Korey, can the polish be used for pit polish if I'm to stop using it on hlr?

It is an acrylic polish however the formulation is different than our Premium Pit Polish Personally I don't think it works as well for for that purpose, but you can try it and see what you think.

I stopped polishing a couple of years ago. The old standard was to sand with 2000 grit, polish, then scuff up the polished lens to provide a surface for the coating to adhere to. Common sense prevailed and the polishing was eliminated and I added a 4000 grit sand which works perfectly. They use to say that under magnification you could tell the difference between polished and unpolished but none of my customers have microscopes  .

Good luck to ya...
