I have tried large pit adapters and do not like them very much, I much prefer capping a large pit.

You won't have any luck with a large pit adapter on Delta Kits equipment. Our injectors seals and injectors are matched to provide optimal pressure at the point of impact. Use of a large pit adapter spreads the pressure out over a larger surface reducing the effectiveness of the injector significantly. The cap, drill, and fill, method works very well when executed properly and maximizes the effectiveness of the Delta Kits injector design.

I will refrain from commenting on the use of large pit adapters with other systems.

The only system I have ever consistently used is Delta, and have had effective and (usually) fast results. I have had success with the cap, tap, and fill but it takes a lot of time and a lot of resin. Plus I hate using a drill if I don’t have too. I see too many cars with holes in the window because the cap fell out; razor blade doesn't give me that problem. If anyone will not refrain and let me know their experience with some other systems, I would appreciate it. If I'm gonna waste the resin anyway, why not do it in a few less steps. My customers expect fast service. I won't compromise quality for time, and my customers know that, but if there is another system that provides quality results in less time on these large pit areas I would like some input.

You guys at Delta ever thought of making a special piston, wider and longer, that would have a matching seal, reinforced and longer/wider. There is plenty of travel in the piston to make tip longer and wider, providing more displacement. A redesigned seal that fits the end of the injector but has a metal sleeve, with just the end of the seal that's touching the glass sticking out. Is this a pipe dream or can this thing be made? I'm sure you could sell them, I would buy one. The way I see it, you guys should make this thing for the Delta system before somebody else does.

We have made a number of prototypes with various different combinations of larger pistons and seals, but they always end up using more resin and produce less than satisfactory results. It only requires 1 extra drop of resin to cap a pit, 2 minutes to cure, and 30 seconds to drill. The large pit adapters that I have used take several extra drops of resin, and because the pressure is spread out across the surface of the glass the break does not fill as well, so it takes considerably longer to get a satisfactory repair.

At Delta Kits we are constantly testing new ideas as well as competitor equipment, and I would think our competitors do the same. One thing we don't do is follow the crowd, or introduce a new product just to increase sales. When our testing results in a true improvement in performance we make changes to the equipment, but only when we are convinced it is in the best interest of our customers.

Most customers don't get upset over the extra 3 minutes and 1 drop of resin it takes to fill the occasional large pit, but we will keep testing and trying to make improvements based on comments from you and and other windshield repair technicians. There is always room for improvement and we appreciate constructive criticism.
