Yesterday I had a fellow and his wife in a big R.V. with a combination break the size of a silver dollar. He did not want to have to take the time to get a replacement windshield while he was on his vacation so he agreed to have me fix it. Came out pretty well, at least 80% better. This was a one piece windshield, it was huge. I was wondering what a windshield in one of them might cost, and how much should we charge for such a windshield? I was happy with what I got, but wonder was it worth more? I appreciate your response.

had a customer this week that said his diesel pusher w/s replacement estimate was $4000. My price for repair is the same for everyone car,truck, or rv with additional price consideration based on difficulty. I've been meaning to ask if a customer comes in with a two piece rv windshield with a chip in each side how do others bill...first chip price for each side or first chip plus additional? Currently I charge first chip plus additional but am thinking this is too generous considering how much money I'm saving them.

The cost and difficulty of production combined with the smaller demand, compared to standard cars and trucks, makes the cost of windshields for these types of vehicles some of the most expensive. Manufacturers try to avoid these costs by making split screens, making them in flat glass or using a screen from a truck or bus under license.

I find it very od to charge more because we're talking about an expensive piece of glass.
We just charge our regular prices -always -for any repair on any glass.
It never depends on the price of a new piece. Weird concept.

A few years ago, there was someone (can't mention his name) discussing charging a percentage of what NAGS list was for a new windshield. For example....cost of w/s repair = 20% of NAGS list. It was an interesting concept but never took off!

My prices vary with location and difficulty why do we charge 25 35 45 etc because you can buy the average windshield for 200 bucks I have to stand on a ladder and work on a big piece of glass I charge more.Some of those things are curved and the bigger piece often more fragile thus It Costs More

I'm gonna use one that Brent uses alot (JMHO) but i do charge the same for all repairs with the exception that it has no major variable that a normal one would'nt have.Such as if on an Rv or big rig for instance if the break happens to be towards the top of some of those windshields it can be way up there and a apin to get to. For instances where i may have to crawl across a big rig hood or get on a bigger ladder than norm for these I will charge more. I only charge a little more because it involve more work though not because the windshield costs more.

You actually crawl on the hood?

No there aren't any of my knee prints in no hood. I just meant if they are long ways off the ground and hard to get to. Please excuse the way I said crawl on hood. I was only trying to make a point as to difficulty in acessing the break due to nature of vehicle and placement of damage.
