Well, I have read ALOT of post and I'm really interested in starting my own WSR business; however, I have NO idea where to begin. For example should I have a LLC, Inc., etc., how do I get a business insured and how much does that cost per month on avg, and how do I get my business on list such as Safelite? At the moment it is just an idea, so I do not have any tools or experience. (I guess that is the first step). I have done some research, but I'm still not sure if it is a good idea or not. I guess that I just need help with the whole process of getting started and tips on how to keep a business up and running. Any advise would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Nick

Re: New To The Forum
Welcome to the windshield repair forum Nick.
All of your questions have already been answered here before, but feel free to call Delta Kits if you would like to have a one on one discussion with a customer service rep that can answer most of your questions or at least point you in the right direction.
I would contact a CPA about how to structure your company. Before you do that however you need to decide what your business model will look like. Depending on your business model you may or may not want to form an LLC, C-Corp, S-Corp, or just do business as a sole proprietorship. I have operated as a sole proprietor, C-Corp, S-Corp and would likely have started as an LLC had that been available when I started. My business model has changed quite a bit over the years.
Contact several independent insurance agents and let them know "exactly" what your business consists of and have them explain the difference between general liability insurance and garage keepers (also for mobile technicians) insurance. You can find a lot of info on this forum about insurance but also a lot of technicians who do not understand what type of coverage they should have. A company that sells both general liability and garage keepers can explain the difference in coverage and then you can go price shopping for the type of coverage you need.
Lots of successful entrepreneurs on this forum that will hopefully chime in with some advise on how to get your business started and grow it into whatever you want it to be. As I mentioned above my staff and I will also be happy to discuss these things with you over the telephone with no pressure to buy equipment from Delta Kits. If you do decide to get into the business I recommend that you get trained by the manufacturer of the equipment you purchase or plan to purchase.
Good luck!

Do you HAVE to be certified to own your own business or operate? and why is it that every windshield repair system is different? because i work for a company right now who uses the triglass bridge with the plastic injector and this is what i am used to so i use this, i have my own kit that consists of the dremel, triglass bridge, (lol don't laugh but) plastic page holders cut into milar squares and the same resin you sell, if i bought your system how would you train me to use it?

TheCrackHappy, I hope that all is well with you. We are very happy to have you on the forum. There is a wealth of information on the forum so I am confident that you will learn a lot by reading the posts and interacting with other members on the forum. Speaking on behalf of Delta Kits you do not have to be factory trained and certified to use our equipment. However, I would check my city, county, and state's rules and regulations about business start-up before proceeding. If you were to purchase a windshield repair system from Delta Kits it comes with a training DVD and manual. Also, we offer unlimited technical support and we have a number of informational videos on our website. In regards, to your question
I would encourage you to read some of previous posts on the forum like this one Different training and products?TheCrackHappy wrote:why is it that every windshield repair system is different?

TheCrackHappy, No dry out system, any UV protection? Delta will teach you how to drill and pop correctly, I would say you may be suprised at how much you can learn from them. We have guys over here that have been trying to repair windshields for many years, most have never heard of dry out, drilling, premature curing, C.U.P, surface and sub-surface recognition and the list goes on.
If you do ever start on your own, do it the best and most processional way you can, get as much training as possible to get the very best chance of success, I wish you luck.

Re: New To The Forum
There are very good reasons for the different systems available out there. The Delta Kits bridge uses a stainless steel injector that does not trap air above the resin in the injector, has a triangular bridge for better stability and adjustment on curved glass, uses a unique end seal that eliminates the need for o-rings, etc, etc. We try not to use this forum as a sales tool so I will not go into all of the other differences or why I think the differences above make a difference here, but if you are interested in trying a Delta kits injection system we do offer a 30 day money back trial offer.
If you call Delta Kits we will be happy to explain the benefits of our products in detail, but even over the telephone we are not going to bash the system you use or any other system for that matter. The system you choose is a choice that you should make based on facts that you gather from your own research, and most importantly from trying different systems yourself, which is why we offer your money back if you are not completely satisfied.
I think it is very important to be properly trained on any system you try to get the most out of that system. Obviously you have been trained on the system you use now but if you try to use your current methods with a Delta Kits system or most other systems for that matter you will not get the results you desire. Each system has unique techniques that will help you optimize the features of that system. It's not easy to convince experienced technicians they will need to change techniques when they change systems, but it's the only way to fairly compare products.
Like screenman said, you seem to be a bit short on tools so regardless of the injection system you use you may want to invest a little time into researching the benefits of some of the support items that are available to you from a number of windshield repair equipment suppliers and how to properly use those tools. Even if you are doing good repairs now I think there may be room for improvement based on the limited equipment you currently use.
Good luck!
