Has anyone tried restoring the shield on a bike? If you do what steps do you use and do you seal the shield?

by just chippen away
I have had a talk with another restoring manufacture and they really do not recommend it to to the fact if it is not done right, you will leave a distortion and that can disrupt the riders viewing area and you could be held responsible in case of a wreck.... (make things appear closer or farther away or even in the wrong place... It would be like wearing someone else's glass perscrition.)

i resurfaced the sheild on my 97 yamaha royal star by stripping the factory coating off then going through the resurfacing proccess and finishing off with the UV coating.
before it was all yellow and flakey, now its all clean and clear have not noticed any distortion or any glare off sanding marks either. was a real pain to resurface though having to do both sides and R&i all the crome trim off but turned out very nice when done, BUT would not like to do another one due to how much time was involed. Most sheilds are around 150 buck's for aftermarket ones if i had to charge to do it for the amount of time that i had in it i could have bought a new one. I figured i would try it i was in a time crunch for a weekend trip and didnt have time to wait on shippin one in.
