Working through insurance companies?

I have a sole proprietorship and would like to work through insurance companies. If I were to go through a third party processor for my claims it seems I need a Tax ID number and Liability insurance, is this correct? Also, do I need liability insurance even if I process the claims myself to get recognized by the insurance companies? I know Liability Insurance is a good Idea but I am just looking at options to get started here. I have read many other conversations in this forum but if anyone can clear up the options for me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks,

Yes, you do need a tax Id # to show you are legit, pay your taxes and be able to open a business bank account so that you can deposit your business checks / insurance company checks, when you get paid.
Insurance is also a must if you are going to be doing work with insurance networks and car dealers.
You can purchase liability insurance for under $250 a year. In the long run it's well worth it.

The easy way is to go with a outside 3rd party like ACT all you need is your SSN as a individual you can start a buisness bank acount as a DBA your name dba buisness name on the checks pretty simple ACt will doa dirrect deposit into either a buisness or personal account some folks make things harder than they need to be. The upside of the DBA is a lot of checks you recieve will be in your name wouldnt want to advise you to cash checks and not report income to uncle so keep a record and pass thier share on :o KISSs the rule here it doesnt need to be complicated to do insurance work 8-) you will recieve a 1099 from ACT at the end of the year :(

The banks in my area will not cash a check made out to your business unless you have a business account with them. If you take the check to the customers bank they will cash it for you,if your name is on the check. When you go on line to obtain your ID # it will down load to you after you fillin the data requested. Your bank can help you. Some people dont like using their SSN number on everything.
None of the isurance Companies or SGC / Links would sign me up without the liability insurance. I pay about $184 per year for $500,000.00 of coverage. Sole PS is the better way for a small business such as repair only. LLC has a lot of requirements and it really doesn't protect you, like most people think against law suites.

Candyman,
May I ask you is your insurance company. The cheapest I have found here (Louisiana) is around $250.00 a year.
If you would rather not say on forum you can PM me.

RLI: They specialize and cover the type of business that we do as WSR. I would put their Ph # on here , but I dont think its allowed.

May I suggest you research my posts on this topic. You may think differently about what you need based on your individual risk tolerance. RLI is great if you never plan on working on an actual vehicle byond that you better have a high risk tolerance. One mistake on a vehicle could be costly!! Think it through...cheap is not always better. Good luck.
