Hi,
I am a newbie in the UK- just got my hands on a practice windscreen in my garage to start repairing.
Is there a tried and tested method of making chips and cracks in a windscreen to practice on without cracking the whole thing?
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks

I use lots of different items for different type of damage, a tile cutter or carbon tipped scribe will make a nice batswing when tapped against the glass with a light hammer or suchlike. The bullseye maker from Delta takes a bit of practise but works well, as does a heavy file just tap a corner against the glass to make a combination. In fact just anything that will break the glass will make good practise damage. Now do not forget that because you are in the UK you should make every damage saoking wet before you start your repair process, anything less and you are kidding yourself.
Best of luck and if you want a chat you know where I am.

Whatever tools or bits of metal you use please wear eye protection.

I use a spring loaded punch to create the damage, then a 1200w heat gun to drive a small crack out.

Your next step is to seek out friends and neighbors to experiment on . My first repair was on my wifes car . Thank god it came out great.

Take a ride out to your local junkyard. You'll find a lot of different kinds of repairs.
