How do you get to the windshield on big trucks and those trucks and vans that have a flat front?

For RV's and cab-over trucks the answer is as simple as a ladder. As far as conventional tractors, once you open the hood revealing the engine compartment you will see places where you are allowed to step up to get to the windshield. Always ask the drivers to show you where to step.

On 90% of fleets trucks I stand on tire. If damage is center I'll work it standing in engine compartment. Every truck is different, so you'll just have to adjust. Most RV's I can work off a 6' foot ladder. You'll figure it out!

I do the same as scrubs 147: I always carry a 4 ft ladder: i stand on the ladder and 1 foot on the tire. I have a 12" wide foot space on my ladder near the top, which works great. I use a 6ft or 8 ft ladder for bigger trucks. I damaged my bridge cup pump on my first truck trying to get it in place while standing on the tire using one hand. I plan to buy a bridge that has a single lever just to use on trucks. Some of the WS are almost straight up.

I have a small one step ladder I carry around also I like the bottom feed injector from LR on the flat glass its lighter and loaded when I put it on the glass. Some of the other mfgs are a little heavy and often pull off the flat glass and the top fills are always more difficult to fill on the flat vert glass so my way works for me. some of the shorter folks prob need a bigger ladder than I do.
