I did my first shelter job today and they said the rates are 38,8,8! whats that about? have they always been that cheap? it was just a shock since Ive been doing a l lot of lynx jobs and they are always the same (50,10,10). I sure hope the other companies dont follow that lead.
why is shelter so cheap?!?!?

dgarza,
Dave M. beat me to the same question. I've never heard of Shelter insurance either. Do they feed through a network? If so, which one?
All the insurance companies I've worked with so far pay between $49.95/10/10 to $75/12.50/12.50. I've even heard of a few paying $100 but haven't been fortunate enough to have serviced one.
I've never seen one at $38/10/10. Not to say they don't exist. If I ever happen too, and they live more than 5 miles mobile, I'll probably be up front with the customer and ask for the difference before I make the drive.

I have done jobs for Shelter before. They arn't that common. They go through Safelite and yes they only pay 38 bucks and 8 and 8, there is also one other insurance company that pays that but I can't think of them off the top of my head right now.

Hmm....
I wonder what the annual premium would be with these folks to insure my Yugo?

Coitster,
Would you have any idea what they pay percentage wise for replacement?
Just curious! If they were at 62% or under NAGS, dagarza might make more off a referral on this one instead of repair it. I usually get a $50 referral fee around this area from the glass shops when they can't be repaired.

I haven't done any jobs yet, but I'm confused on your pricing. Why are there 3 numbers?
38/8/8

the insurance will only pay for up to 3 repairs per windshield. hence 50,10,10 or 60,10,10 which is the norm.

The three numbers, when dealing with insurance billing
$x.00/$y.00/$z.00
x=max amount that can be billed for first repair on a ws
y= max amount that can be billed for second repair on same ws (at the same time
z = max amount for the third repair.
Hope this makes sense.
