I disagree StarQuest, its nearly impossible now to waive deductables and offer factory glass. The only companies that I know of that are waiving deductables are the ones who are buying glass in bulk. I used to be in the replacement industry and personaly I got out of it because of the changes that where coming about. For example, I considered last year to get back into it, and I get the latest updates from all the insurance companies almost everyday via Safelite and Lynx on their replacement pricing. Even collecting 100% of the deductable with for example statefarm I don't make as much profit as a chip repair. I tried to negotiate fair pricing with both LOF and PPG and they wouldn't give me enough of a discount to even make money on the job. As for waiving deductables companies still do it, I personaly don't understand how they do it and still stay in business. I think that is going to start disapearing soon. BTW the reason the insurance companies got out of the glass biz is because in many states. The state itself has made it illegal for insurance companies to own glass replacement shops do to unfair trade restriction. As for your comment about aftermarket glass not being so bad, I disagree. I personaly installed glass for years and I can't tell you how many times I would go to instal a windshield and find that it didn't fit. I would find that it wasn't exactly the right size. For example if you used to work for safelite you had to truely be an artist to install one of their windshields. Granted they have impoved their glass a lot but still its not exactly to the same specs. All glass is not created equal. I am so glad I personaly don't install anymore because it was just to much of a headach.
