Hi there, I have heard that Jiffy Lube are getting into replacing Windshields--Are they doing replacements in your state????

There may be isolated cases of single franchise owners using a local replacement shop on a refferal basis but I would highly doubt any of them are doing the replacements themselves. Safelite also has a very weak refferal program that sucks so bad only Jiffy Lube corporate does it.

if hey get 1 refferal a week per location out of that program I would be shocked. it is truly a lame program where the customer is given a flyer and told to mention the name of the store then Safelite has to record it and have the info make it to the right department for them to finally get a commission on it. It is surprisingly ineffective.

TBW Hi again,

So far we have not heard they, (Jiffy Lubes), are getting into replacement. We sure don't need another glass replacement shop up here in this pip-squeak state! There's already an overwhelming amount of glass shops here.

Just a demograhics note: we only have 650,000 people in the whole state. It's really puny.

Glass Technology lands Jiffy Lube deal

(Durango, CO) Glass Technology landed a major windshield repair contract this week, with an agreement to sell equipment to the Jiffy Lube Association of Franchisees (JLAF) Purchasing Cooperative. The JLAF will promote Glass Technology's Quick Lube Windshield Repair Systems to its members and in return, Glass Technology will rebate a percentage of the qualifying sales to the purchasing co-op.

"We are very excited about this venture," says Glass Technology executive vice president Phil Lemler, who points out that Glass Technology already has between 170 and 200 lube customers. Jiffy Lube currently operates 1,400 stores in the US, and an additional 600 Quaker State Q-Lubes are being switched over to Jiffy Lubes as a result of Pennzoil's 1998 acquisition of Quaker State.
Under Glass Technology's agreement with Jiffy Lube, Glass Technology will be the preferred vendor of windshield repair products and will provide marketing services and training. However, the deal does not infringe on Glass Technology's rights to sell to other lube chains.

In fact, Lemler sees the lube market as a tremendous growth opportunity for windshield repair companies.

"From a quick lube's perspective, they are looking for ancillary services to add because oil changes are so price competitive," he says. "Windshield repair is one of the most profitable services to add, plus it is easy to sell and most insurance companies pay for it. This will benefit both of us."

Streekyd,

This article is from 3/25/1999 and I have yet to see one Jiffy Lube in my area offer in shop windshield repair services. Guess it didn't work out to well. I know they have a contract to send referrals to Safelite glass but to be truthful that hasn't went very good either from what local managers tell me.

Regarding them getting into the glass replacement business, I think they'd be setting themselves up big time for failure. Oily hands and glass replacement just don't mix;)

Liquid Resins and A.C.T. (owned by the same person) is basically the only one doing Jiffy Lubes now ... GT never got any Jiffy Lubes for a long term period and they don't do it anymore, or if they do they don't have any sort of presence.
