I won't take my truck to Jiffy Lube to get the oil changed, much less to get glass installed. Used them for a while for oil changes because it was convenient. Went out one Sunday to change the oil because I had been too busy to go by there and have them do it. The head on the plug was completely stripped off. When I went to get a new plug(after much screaming and cussing) the guy at the parts store said "Jiffy Lube huh?". Seems they had to replace several cracked oil pans because of this. Sorry to rant, I just can't imagine allowing this company to do something as important to my family's safety as install a windshield.

Yes the JL in Utah that you are talking about is owned by a holding group called Lube Management .... in fact one of the owners also owns a major percentage of stock in Arctic Circle .. the fast food chain ... and a member of the Utah Jazz (can't remember his name now) is a silent partner as well. They purchased half of a glass company called Atlas glass, it is a legitimate glass shop and they come do replacements on an on-call basis. The repairs are done by techs at the shop but the replacements are not done by JL guys. Utah however is a literal gold mine .. if I was mormon I would move there. There are 10 times the chips in Utah as there are in Oregon where I live, and people are more responsive i nUtah as well. I know many people who have done VERY well in Utah despite the enormous amount of chips JL's do there.

This article is from 3/25/1999 and I have yet to see one Jiffy Lube in my area offer in shop windshield repair services. Guess it didn't work out to well. I know they have a contract to send referrals to Safelite glass but to be truthful that hasn't went very good either from what local managers tell me.

Regarding them getting into the glass replacement business, I think they'd be setting themselves up big time for failure. Oily hands and glass replacement just don't mix;)

Jiffy Lubes turn around time on completing a customer's service is too short for a windshield repair/billing ins company etc. Their best option is to set ip up with a mobile wsr company and get them out of their lot onto the next customer in line. It is a good concept to work with especially knowing that most people who go to JL have a nicer car than average and full coverage insurance. Downside, hard to get lube techs to look over windshield for something "they're not paid to do" un;ess perhaps you can bring them lucnh once in a while or some type of incentive.

Vermont is an excellent state for stone damage. Every other windshield I look at has stone damage. Lots of dirt roads, and the State of Vermont uses a salt-gravel mix to "sand" the roads in winter. We WSR techs love it. The only problem is that we only have about 650,000 people who live here.

Funny story... My friend wanted to prove if the theory of tipping a cow over while she's sleeping is true. He snuck into the area and as soon as he approached, the cows gathered in a group and started to gang on him. He ran of course. ...well, this has nothing to do with wsr so...err...i'll get back to work.
