Phone line sharing device
Phone line sharing device
OK, so I have only one phone line at home and the phone company gets too much money (IMHO) for it, and now I can see that having a FAX machine will be a "must have" item, how are you guys and gals dealing with that? Are there any "line sharing devices" that work better thatn others? I really don't want to setup a second phone line unless I have no other choice. Maybe the home phone answers as a FAX Monday through Friday 8-5? :eusa_thin
Re: Phone line sharing device
You could always get a fax machine with built-in answering machine that automatically detects fax/voice (less than $150.00).
As well, you can signup for efax.

I have the HP 2410 all in one fax-printer-scanner-copier. You can set it up to detect an incoming fax call. If it's a voice call the answering machine picks up. If you don't have the answering machine on it will pick up as fax only.

You should call your service provider, they will explain your options. Verizon set up a second phone # for 15.00 per month and gives it a ring that the fax recognizes so the thing gets answered by the fax only if the correct ring occurs. We also have DSL on the same line!! Isn't mdoern technology great!!

Jeff, you might consider a device called the Emerson Switchboard. I see one available for $25 + 8 s+h at wonderfulbuys.com. You will need to subscribe to call waiting in order to use this and I think caller I.D. would be a good idea too so you'll know whether someone you know is calling or whether you're about to recieve a fax.
Re: Phone line sharing device
The contract that I signed with one of the networks requires a dedicated fax line....which I obtained. I just write the cost off as a business expense.
