It is good stuff .. it comes in a single use applicator with chemicals on both sides and you snap the barrier, they combine and you wipe it on the WS. People usually charge $20 for it and it lasts easily 6-10 times as long as Rain-X. It can do the fromt and back windows with one application ... after that it gets kind of thin but if you wanted to wipe it on the drives window you could use the last of it there. It is profitable if you find a good supplier. I don't know the prices as I was only doing chips in the gas stations, Jiffy Lubes and Car Washes that sold them and I was never on e buying end of it.

It is a polymer. Never used it myself. I stumbled across a local product that is pure carnuba.

CG, How long does the carnuba last before needing a re-application?

Yes it does contain a bit of silicone, so keep it away from body shops. Here it costs me $7 per application and I sell it for $30. I am developing a treatment ot offer my customers, because I find the ppg product to be too expensive, and it dries out too fast to be able to do all the windows on the car(treatments help in the winter with ice and snow removal)My goal is a product with a lofe span as good as PPG, with a below $1 application cost, that way I can give a treatment as a freebee when doing a repair, get the customer hooked, the sell re-applications every 3- 4 months. The more often you see your customers, the more they will refer you. Also doing treatments is a positive service(ws repair is a service that they need, but not out of choice, something bad has too happen to require your services, treatment is a chioce thing). I have also tried Carnuba waxes as well as many other formulations, they all work to some degree, and will last longer than Rain-x but not as long as Aqua-pel. One thing about the waxes is that they tend to smear windshied washer fluid when using wipers. Before using a wax try it out on your WS and see what it does. First wash your windshield with a good wax remover to get down to "pure" glass, then try different samples on 1/4 of the glass each(use aqua-pel on one sample section to use as a control sample). When doing this I would keep it on the glass for 3 months(the typical duration of aqua-pel). If one sample was crap I would re-clean that area with wax remover, then re-apply another product. Most waxes require 2 coats to work well.

Aquapel lasts longer than Rain-X and is easier to install. One problem I've had with using Rain-X, is unless you get the glass perfectly clean the treatment will give the glass an oily appearance. According to Rain-X you need to watch what glass cleaners you use. Cleaners that say "streak free" may leave a coating of their own. Rain-X recommended to me years ago Windex or just a little alcohol in water to clean the glass.

I've never had any problems with installing Aquapel.

For me Aquapel is a slow mover, its hard to sell when someone can get a bottle of Rain-X for 2 or 3 dollars. Now it appears Aquapel will soon be sold to the public, as a while back on Glassbytes I saw where a company is selling individual treatments on the internet for $10.

Anyone wanting to buy Aquapel can buy it at Security Filter Co. (800) 937-3443; pricing is arround $92 for 24 treatments.

I had someone do a demo on half my windshield. I couldnt believe the result! I was driving behind a transport in the rain, and realized I didnt have my wippers on! I looked out the untreated area and couldnt see the side of the road. Its been on now for 3 months and has decreased its efficency abit but it is still better than the untreated area. Check ebay as its sold on there also at a good price. Ive thought about getting some just for friends and family. I still think it could be a hard sell, for the amount of profit to be made. JMO

It,s a hard sell the first time, but after the customer has had it they generally want more(meaning repeat business). Persistance is the key to sucess.
