call them back and demand a Repair Doctor come and give the windshield its meds. The "medic" forgot and now your windshield is cranky! It will throw them for a loop! :)

All kidding aside what you need to do is first do what StarQuest said and get a second opinion from some who just does repairs . THen if the chip wasnt done correctly then call unsafelite and request to have a comment card sent to you by mail. its graet they have to comply. Once you recieve the card ,on the back of it there will be a number ...call it ... and tell them how "NOT HAPPY" you are with safelite in "bla, bla"city and the OFFICIAL complaint will be logged and the Store manager will be chewed the following morning with a NASTY email from corperate.
JUST A LITTLE SECRET.... THEY DONT GET THERE PRECIOUS $BONUS IF THEY GET A COUPLE OF COMPLAINTS....MUMS THE WORD ON THIS ONE!!!!

I fortunatly have to repair pre-mutilated breaks on a unfortunatly regular basis. While we don't have safelite in Canada, we do have shops with the following repair mantra" if it looks like crap the customer will eventually get tired of seeing this spot in there face and have us change the WS" . There second maxim is " if it breaks, the customer will have us replace the WS, as long as it survives our 30/30 (30feet or 30 seconds) warenty we are OK".This is when a competent repair tech comes in to save the day, with a bit of patience, flexing, and as a last resort heat, we can usually get our quality resins past the $5 a gallon(a slight exageration) crap they use. If you can pull this off(75% success rate for me), you now have a customer for life that will show all his friends that he previously complained to that his repair was crap. Before atempting such a repair I will warn the customer that it will still look bad(I can't remove there resin) but the tips will be filled, or it's no charge. When they do fill and I do a proper pit treatment(anohter thing the other techs don't do)to it the customers are generally very happy and willing to pay. I ahve some customers with the odasity to go back to company X and demand a refund, showing them what a good repair should look like, and giving them my business card. I also provide the same service for dealers that have people returning leased cars, thinking that the repair they had done would pass inspection. I charge $10 over my regular charge for this.

I ran across a customer who had what looked like a fresh a bulls-eye. He said that it was already repaired. I was astonished. Normally I don't ask questions or knock the competition but I had to ask who did the repair (hoping it was a local car wash, etc.). It was a reputable replacement shop who charged $20. Normally I would walk away from a repaired job but it was soo bad (and I needed the money) that I ask him if he would file an insurance claim for a repair if I was able to redo the reapir to his full satisfaction. He agreed.

The pit had been filled along with about 1/3 of the cone so I knew I couldn't fill a usual (through pit opening). The circular base of the break was completely black. I drilled a hole to the laminate at the top of the black circle and injected resin. It took a while under pressure with added heat but the base of the break eventually filled to the customer's satisfaction. We then filed for insurance (Farmers).

Without live training, I probably wouldn't have known the ins & outs to do this repair. Thanks Delta.

That is one of the rare times I will drill to the laminate, if I am repairing an old break.

I can't see going back to the same place that did a lousy repair to do the windshield. I'd go out of my way to find someplace else. To be fair to all the bashing, safelite 1) did not charge me for the repair and 2) has a policy to refund the charges to repair it if the repair doesn't pass inspection or lease-back. Of course to me, thats like getting a 10 year warranty on a car that is constantly in the shop. Not really too soothing.

Safelites warranty states:

If you are dissatisfied with the repair, we will credit the cost of repair toward replacement....

We guarantee that the repaired portion of the windshield will not carack further and that the repair will pass any state inspection, or we will credit the cost of repair toward replacement.

Not the same thing as a refund. You get your money back if you or your insurance company will spend more money with them.
I just happened to have a copy handy because of a shoddy replacement job they did for my wife.

It seems that it doesn't photograph, at least not with a digital camera. I can't get it to focus on it. Its a star with maybe a quarter-inch dent thats filled with the resin stuff. Anyone on Long Island on here?

And for the guy who asked what they said after they did it, they said "the guy who did it didn't like the way it came out and to not charge you for it". Not much else. Its on the passenger side so maybe I can just get one of those suction cup animals or something....

Flash is off..just too much reflection from the windshield. I'll try it in the garage.
