Resin sources
I talked to a tech rep from one of the big guys he claims all the companies buy from one of 2 Chemical Companies and relabel it with thier brand his claim is each have a couple different thicknesses and otherwise its all the same. Seems kinda off to me but what do I know?
Re: Resin sources
While true that most companies by from the same source, there are differences. The manufacturor will produce resin to the customers specifications if asked to, if not they provide a generic. The majority of WSR supply companies use a combination of generic resins and proprietary mixes. The proprietary mixes are made specificaly for the demanding company, and not sold to others.

Re: Resin sources
I don't know the number of resin makers but I do know it is more than jut a couple. It is true what Ivan is saying that each big manufacturer has it's own exclusive mixture and no one else can buy it. Even if you want the genneric mixture you have to buy it in very large quantities ... but it is cheaper if you want to spend a couple grand to buy it that way. I never wanted to do that myself.

Re: Resin sources
We evidently aren't privy to the information that repare-brise says he is. I know where 3 of the other major manufacturers get their resin, and none of them are from the same sources.
A few things about resin:
All windshield repair manufacturers are very small. I know I know, all you technicians think manufacturers are rolling in dough, but the reality is we're all smaller than a decent size glass shop.
To mix or manufacture our own resins, and do it right (so that each batch is exactly the same, no contaminants, perfect blends, etc.), would be cost prohibitive. There's just not the volume in this industry to afford the clean rooms, technicians, and machinery to match what a full blown chemical company can do.
We contract out to a chemical company that makes our resin for us according to our specifications, and they are not available to others.

Long live Magnibond! Whatever you put in that stuff Jeff, don't change a thing. Once the resin is in there, the chips don't break out or start to go ugly.
Can't say the same thing about some of the other resins I have tried.
