Repair 1, We have a guy doing the same thing here and while it is overcast here alot I have never seen the guy use a cover or uv shield. The day I stopped by he was doing a repair on in full sun. What is real funny is he has a tent but he refuses to work under it. I've even watched him do a repair in the rain 10 feet from his canopy in a pretty strong rain. Says he dosn't want to screw up his canopy. I thought he would be gone a long time ago but not, still there. I have even had some of his customers in and his repairs looked ok so... go figure. No matter we couldn't possably do all the work in our area anyway, now if we could just convince the poo pooers that WSR is an intelligent choice!! Around here it's "Oh I'll just wait untill it cracks out and get a new shield" or the like.

Repair1,

There is a repair business that uses a two part mixture that is not UV curable, unlike the resins that most of us use which require some kind of UV screen.
I have never used this product but understand that it hardens in about 10-15 minutes!

I'll be the first to admit, there are customers of ours out there that do not follow proper techniques, and probably do bad work. Just like EVERY manufacturer has customers out there who do bad work.

There's only so much we can do. Each purchase comes with unlimited technical support, kits come with DVD's, and you don't even have to purchase anything to come to free training.

We do everything we can do to make sure people who use our equipment have the opportunity to be among the best trained technicians in the field.

Can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink.

To answer your question though Brian, UV shields are still strongly recommended.

Maxryde, Your repair's look OK also. If your talking about me in this thread then your wrong. I use delta's digital thermometer to make sure the windshield is in the proper temp range before starting repair's. And I use small towels with A suction cup to shade during repair. The reason I don't pull every car under my tent is because of the wind. You know how that goes.....Long time no see. stop by sometime.

Sorry Nim, Not you, I was referring to the other tent dude, you know the one who get's a new tech every few months. That is why I thought it wasn't gonna last. But I guess half the $ sounds good enough to get a new tech when ever you want or what ever. haven't seen you around for a bit, you still in the same location, I'll stop by when I get a free moment. What day are you there? PM me and we'll chat.

I've used resins in the past that weren't UV activated and didn't require a cover. Not sure if any of these resins are available on the open market these days. Everything has went UV over the last few years. Seems that's what provides the quickest and best results.

If your personally working a hit that's within the confines (very small) of your seal, you really don't need a shield. If your working with anything larger......it's a given to cover it!!! It would be stupid not too! Anybody that does this will never have the ability to fill longer legs without leaving tips, therefore leaving a less then quality repair. I hope these people are a very select few.
