How To Sell Cash Repairs

Well hello again everyone. I was asked to put out another post, this one on the topic of Selling Cash Windshield Repairs. Everyone knows by now what has started to happen with State Farm Ins and many other insurance companies are now also talking about doing away with covering repairs. But I have good news

Hello Coister...

I'm so new at this, I've not even been trained yet *smile* but one of the things I always wondered, was why everyone was bothering so much with insurance. I agree that I don't think I'd want to wait 2 months for my money. I understand that $50 is a lot to some people, but to other people it's not, so why not get it now. I think the convince alone would outweigh any monetary losses you might incur.

Thanks for reaffirming what I'd already suspected.

I too go against the grain and sell 98% cash jobs(you allways get the older client who sais"I've ben paying insurance for 40 years so they can pay my chip", you know the type fairly new Linclon or Cadilac......). Doing it this way has earned me a spot of honor with the local insurance agents(less claims=more cash for them) and a contract with a local insurance company who uses us as there first line of defense against WS replacement. There customers can't get a WS replaced without our approval, and after 4 months there WS replacement claims are down over 80%. Needless to say they are enthused about WS repair when not done by a replacement shop.

I always have (and still do) sell almost all cash jobs.
I find that in my area, most people are afraid to use their insurance for fear of a rate hike. They would rather pay me cash or check and be done with it without the little worry in the back of their minds about how an insurance claim might affect their rates.

And the nice thing about cash jobs is a lot of the customers will actually tip me like a pizza delivery guy (which I use to do in the 1980's)

Coister, great post. This has made me think alot about turning as many jobs as possible into cash/check jobs.

I have one question tho. If you accept a check, how do you know it wont bounce. or is that a risk, I know it shows there name on the check.. so do you track them down and tell them your check bounced? Seems like too much trouble.. mabye i am totally wrong on this part :) .. please clear this up

Thanks

Hey Tyler,
Personaly I have never had a check bounce in all these years. If they do bounce it, no big deal, most people aren't going to freak out over $50 bucks, just go get your money from them. Its not a big deal, still hasn't ever happened to me though.

Hi David, I'm just getting started in the business in the Sacramento area, about 100 miles to the north/east of you and was wondering if I could ride with you one day ? Thank you Ed

Just something to think about when accepting checks. If the check bounces not only will their bank charge them a bounced check fee, your bank will charge you a bounced check fee. I did a repair about a year ago for a "friend of the family" and not only didn't I get paid for the repair I'm out thirty dollars for the bounced check fee. Just a reminder that if a check bounces you are due any additional costs you incur for the check bouncing.

I think a well rounded mix of cash and insurance is best, obviosly each area is different and the insurance rules are different and some areas the rates are much higher so people tend to shy away from making even the smallest claim for fear of higher rates. Also it depends on what type of work you do cold call retail in the average area makes the insurance sale easy "Im here now its free whats to think about?" Recently I have been concentrating on building my commercial clients and havnt done alot of cold call so the insurance work is minimal.
I guess what im trying to say is for the quickest and easiest sale with the highest closing ratio on calls one must be able to do insurance work. We all know sales is the way to succeed and Dave Coit is one of those rare closers who could sell anything including bibles in the mosque. For the avarage joe dont shy away from the insurance work to make a consistant living you have to be able to do both.
