it cracked! =(
it cracked! =(
Well tonight I was working on my uncle's truck. Doing a combination break in the upper corner area that had about 5 legs coming out of the impact area. As soon as i setup my bridge I heard a pop and one of the legs shot out about 10"s =( The damage has been there for over a month. Not sure there was anything I could have done differently. I didn't tighten anything down too tight. I think it was just one of those times =( Still feel crappy.
Re: it cracked! =(
The worse feeling in the world is when you hear that "Crack" sound! We've all been there one time or another. If his windshield was too hot or you applied too much pressure on the glass with your injector at the same time, your chances of cracking out the glass is extreamly high especially if the break is on the edge of the glass. You MUST cool the windshield down first by rolling down the windows and put the vehical in the shade. I use a windshield reflector on the OUTSIDE of the glass for about 10 min. and then it the glass will cool to the touch and then proceed with the repair. Of course I assume that it was a hot day and the windsheild was extreamly hot? If not....I'm not sure what happened. I cracked out one or two when I first started windshield repair 9 years ago. Scary stuff! Be careful and you won't have to stress out.
Re: it cracked! =(
The windshield reflector you use is that like one of those foil looking things people use to keep sun off their dash and their car cool? I've heard of people using misters. I might look into that some more. Thanks for the reply.
Re: it cracked! =(
During our hot and humid season I use the AC in the car if so equiped to coll the glass, if not rubbung alcohol in a spray bottle works well, and also a wet towel place on the glass colls things down.
Merci
Merci

Have you ever cracked out a shield by putting a wet towel or spraying it down?

Popped one with the alcohol spray glass too hot should have cooled it slower (live and learn) slow cool from the outside spraying the alcohol several inches away from it working torwards the center slowley works best for me combined with air on inside the vehicle. I palce a towel over the glass to keep the cool in and the sun out after a little while pull up corners and spray then replace towel. havnt popped one since I started useing this method of corse it doesnt get hot here for long and cold glass is just as much a pain in the GWB

Buy a good quality heavy duty sun shade and install a couple of suction cups 2" round, on each corner and use it on the OUTSIDE not the inside for about 10 minutes and you will be able to touch the cool windshield and get started on your repair. Good luck.
