Actually, that does not convince me! So, if you are new to w/s repair, ACT is the way to go ( insurance work). What happens after you have been in business for over one year? Why would I want to continue paying 22% for processing?

Dave,

You mean other than having to wait one year, and other than not worrying about the paperwork, and other than having someone else collect for you, and other than not *needing* liability insurance, and other than not worrying about steering as much?

Well Dave, I guess there aren't very many good reasons, other than the reasons.

ACT isn't for everyone, but for those that choose to utilize the benefits, they're happy with it. You don't seem to be one of them, but that doesn't mean there are no benefits.

2 years in and still use the act program. I do prequalify for the reduced rate as much as is reasonably possible. I feel the folks at ACT EARN their keep as they follow up on problem claims and do a large amount of the paper work I would have to do if I did the direct bill thing or joined the networks. For the new guy yes I believe you have enough to do with doing a good job on the work you've gotten already and then finding enough work to keep your self busy. If you have been at this for a while Maybe you have forgotten the early years of feast and FAMINE or maybe it was easier then? Not as much competition? I know for me I am glad I have more than just WSR going on or I would be sunk in a market of about 60,000 people and a dozen providers that do nothing but WSR in the local area. We have techs coming from 100 plus miles away to work in my little backyard and you can only slice a pie so many ways. Dave you said you're paying $2.25 for edi, if I prequalify 70% of my claims I'll average less than $10.00 a claim and yes that is a fair chunk of change but as I said before the folks there earn their keep! The percentage is not 22% it is more like 12% after knocking off the 2.25 for edi and most claims run $7.95 if prequalified by me, most claims are more than $50.00 Average is more like $60.00 or $65.00. Believe me it has been worth the extra $5.00 bucks a claim to have the work done for me! My two cents worth! Scott

Thanks for the replies! Jeff, you are correct, ACT may not be for everyone. I'd like to hear some replies from forum members who do not use ACT or, maybe I'm the only one!

The not doing a bunch of paperwork does it for me I wouldnt do it any other way

When I started wsr April 2003 I feared having to deal with the insurance and billing networks. That's one of the reasons I joined a business that did the billing for me. I've been processing paperwork through GlassComp and the SGC website for the past 7 months. A normal day will take 15-30 minutes to print out my faxes from efax, send them to GlassComp and then I process the invoices online with SGC. NOT a big deal. Personally, the change has been good for my business.
ACT in my opinion would be great for the newbies or those doing the business part-time in conjunction with a full-time job. As Maxryde said when your new, focusing on quality repairs is most important. My view is that when repairs become somewhat comfortable and routine then you increase your profits by learning how to process the paperwork.

Clairity,
Could you please expound on the transformation process, in order to make the change to handling the billing yourself, you are required to divorce yourself from ACT and then you have to join the networks Etc, Etc, Etc...
Another issue could you estimate cost per claim for the do it yourself plan. Also any problems with claims that don't get paid in a timely fashion-time spent on follow up with the networks/customers?
I guess what my question is for you Steve is, what kind of dollar value has the change made for you? (Percentage wise):) Thx, Scott

I believe that they still ask if you've been in business a year, and if you say no, then tell you that you have to be in business one year.
