State Inspections

Post by Bois »

Just wondering...
Are there any states where personal auto safety inspections fail if there is an unrepaired rock chip in the W/S? (forget commercial vehicles)

Yes there are a matter of fact.. I live in New Jersey. Don't ask me why but I do. Anyway like i said before I have this little crack/crushed round spot on my w/s and took it to the motor vehicle inspection station and if faild with flying colors. So to answer your question in the messed up sate of NJ you will fail inspection every time. And it doesn't matter where it's at on the windshield. In my case the location of my cracked w/s can't even be seen, because the rear view miror is blocking it. And the state still fails my car. Go figure. The reason for this they say "it's obstruction of view" . Obstruction of view my ass.. lol Semper Fi:eusa_doh:

If its in the drivers primary view area it fails here in Vermont most inspection stations interpret the drivers view area to be the wiper path on the drivers side but some places fail it if there is a chip anywhere on the windshield claiming the windshield is the view area

Dale,
In Maine your auto will fail inspection with any damage to the windshield. If a repair is done in the acute viewing area the inspector will often refuse to issue a sticker although state law does allow repairs in the acute viewing area.
Hope this helps.
