cold weather?

Post by mattglass »

I would like to know if anybody can give me some advice on fixing chips in cold weather. I've been doing windshield repair for a long time in hot weather and I am now moving into an area that is very cold so I w3ould like to be able to perform top of the line repairs. If anyone can help me out I would appreciate it.

Mattglass,

The important thing is to warm up the glass. It's best to turn on the car's heater. The defrosters will work faster but be careful not to heat the glass too quickly or you may crack out. All depends on where the break is located.

Some experienced techs use torches or heat guns. Know what you're doing if you try this method. I personally use a hair dryer - slow but safe.

If you're working in a heated garage, watch for water condendation on a cold windshield. Always check for moisture in the break (snow, ice, etc.).

Make sure your resins and injectors are warm. I buy hand warmers from Wal Mart and keep one in my pocket with resin and injector (if below 40 degrees). If warmer, I just keep them in my warm truck or coat/pants pocket.

Use a thinner resin like Delta Kits Premium Bond.
