Double Edge Sword

like i stated before excellent forum wealth of information been doing this for over 20 years i learned a few things off here to even after 20 years experience.its great for delta helps sell mote kits only bad thing i feel about this forum is that anybody that reads it can start almost immediately in business. So in reality we r giving our trade secrets out to the competion. When i first started out was only person in my area doing repairs the glass companies here didnt even offer this service.i used it as a gimmick to get my foot in the door for fleet accounts.worked great.most insurance agents i visited didnt even no what stonechip repair was back then.how times have changed lol now stonechip companies like hotdog stands around here one on every corner.while its alright to give some adviceu shouldnt give out your trade and maketing stategies,You dont see lil ceasars give out its recipe for there pizza sauce to other pizza companies or there maketing strategies.cause the very people u share your strategys with today will be tomorrows competition.im not against giving out advice on repairs but think u should have to go out and find your own strategies and marketing techinique.i was around during the glory days of glass installation then watched the bottom fall out see the same thing happening here now with repairs

Your right on this, but the information we share is only part of the puzzle, the individual taking the tips must apply them properly and professionally. The glass industry is a cut throat business, and to operate a small business that offers windshield repair only, a person must work very very hard. If the bills are not getting paid at the end of the day, we must work harder to have an extra buck in our pockets after the bills are all paid. Keep after it, make some changes, do things a bit more professionally than the other, you will have the business you need.

Phils..that sounds like a protectionist attitude.I used to be like that as a bodyman and I see alot of guys like that at the factory I work at .People higher than me don't want me to get to smart.Shareing info benifits the industry as a whole.I'd like to hope that the pie is big enough for all of us and if not..DIVERSIFY. I'm not putting all my eggs in 1 basket thats why I am going to also offer other services like P.D.R. and rustproofing and maybe some spot repair and maybe even minor welding repairs.(only some services mobily though).

Hello Phil.. Were in Michigan are you that there are that many tents set up? I live in Michigan also and there are none were I live. I agree with you on most points but I also feel there is quit a bit of work out there on the retail side.
