The only trend that I've seen lately is some of the insurance companies affiliated with Safelite adjusting rates upward to $63.00 flat rate. This helps when there's a single chip repair.

The going price for a standard WR is only $25 in Alberta. The cost of fuel affects just about everything so why not WR as well. With virtually no Windshied Insurance here, I wish we could charge what is charged state side.

You can charge more. Its all in how you present yourself. I pride myself in being the most expensive chip repairman in town. You need to sell the quality of your service and talk to them about how expensive a windshield is. I never talk to people about those guys doing replacements for nothing. I compair them to the dealers and factory glass.

The price of gas doesn't worry me as much as the drop in work. Work dropped off bad after Katrina last year and was very light for 2 months. If work stays the same, buy a scooter or a motorcycle. The insurance is cheap and you should get 50 mpg+. I am very close to going on two wheels, I just hate the thought of dragging my tools around like that though.

As I recall, the cost of fuel in the UK includes a substantial tax that funds a lot of the social programs there.

Keep in mind that we pay for our health programs here in the US...if the cost of fuel was tied to supporting such social programs then our per gallon cost would be comparable to theirs.

I believe that the price of fuel is related to business being slow. Right after Katrina business dropped off drastically, it has picked up since then but not to where it should be. With the cost of fuel prices going up and wages not reflecting the huge increase people are not repairing their windshields as quickly as they were.
