What would you do...?
What would you do...?
I got my first repair to do tomorrow and its gonna be an insurance job...when i get there, what should i do first? I am registered with lynx/metryx already...now do i call lynx for the claim or do i call the customer's insurance provider? I am really not sure how to go about this...do i always contact lynx for the claim? Are there any other reason why i would contact the customer's insurance provider rather than lynx? I guess i am lil confused about what lynx can actually do for me...please help, this is all new to me.

Re: What would you do...?
Rudy,
First, are you sure Lynx is the TPA for your customers insurance company? Are you also signed -up with SGC?
Here's what I do (not everyone will agree). If your customer wants to go thru their ins. have them call the ins. co. not the agency. Make sure they specify w/s repair NOT replacement. Make sure your customer says they want (your business name here) to do the repair and that an appointment has already been made with you.
You will than receive a call from the TPA verifying the ins. info and give you the ref. number authorizing the work. You should than receive a fax with all the info.
Before you ask your customer to call the ins. co., inform them about the TPA and that the ins. co. will probably give them the toll free number to call (unless you have it ).
This process has worked for me for 12 years and as far as I know I have not lost an ins. job by way of steering, once I have talked to my customer.

Re: What would you do...?
Thank you for the response dave...now couple of things, TPA? Could you tell me what it stands for? I am sorry, but I am not too familiar with the abbreviations yet. How will i know if Lynx is the TPA for the customers insurance company? I am not signed up with SGC...I did check out the website, what exactly can SGC do for me and what do they actually do?
I apologize for such newbie questions...

Rudy,
TPA.......Third Party Administrator
You may not know which TPA until your customer places the claim and you receive a call from them.
With SGC you can ask for a list of all the ins. co. they handle in your area so you would know as soon as your customer tells you which ins. co. they have.
What can SGC do for you? Other than handling the billing and charging you a fee...not much! Billing direct can be done without joining a network but can be a hassle. I handle all of my network billing (EDI) thru Glass Comp @ $2.25 per invoice. E-direct is another electronic process available thru Delta Kits and Glass Technology for a small monthly fee. ACT is another.
Read thru these posts and archives and gain a wealth of knowledge!
Whichever method you choose, being new to this business, I'd suggest using a per invoice fee until your ins. work makes it worth paying a monthly fee.

Re: What would you do...?
Most of your ins. jobs can be handled thru Lynx, an those that aren't on Lynx can be done thru SGC and you can file all SGC claims thru their web site for no service fee which is great savings. And you usually receive payment in about 3weeks.
Re: What would you do...?
Good luck Glass magic
We have done several insuarnce jobs that we just had the customer call there provider and ok that they get the repair done. We then just grab their fax number and send them an invoice. Most insurance companies will just pay with no problems at all. make sure you get all the info about the customer and their vehicle including vin # when you fax the info.
