Small ring around repair?
Small ring around repair?
3 of my four repairs today had a ring around them about 1/16 of an inch or less wide. Is this from too much pressure when initually seating the injector to the glass or pressure during the pressure cycle? The fleet customer was still happy but I don't like those rings. Any help would be appreciated
thanks

yes. could also be a mixture of to much pressure, and or water.
Re: Small ring around repair?
Well it has been raining alot but it was dry the day I did them and the trucks had just been setting in the lot. They appeared totally dry. I will look into it though.

Definitly too many cycles with too much pressure will cause rings as I have found out.

It was around 80 or a little less. I was using 20/30 glasweld resin. Thanks for the help guys.

Re: Small ring around repair?
If it had been raining a lot it is very unlikely the chips would have dried out properly in just one day. For those of you that have a practise glass fill a bullseye with water, place it outside and even in hot weather there can be moisture in is 72 hours later. It is imperative that we look for moisture in every damage before we start filling. When working car lots etc it might not have rained for a while but when did they last wash the stock. the same applies to every vehicle if the screen is clean assume it has just or recently been washed.
Moisture is the biggest enemy to the WSR tech.

Thanks screenman I guess that is possible also. How can I tell if there is moisture in the damage they all looked fine? They were not washed because the shields were still covered with bugs LOL but it had been raining on and off days before.

small ring around repair.
Accoring to my experience, a white ring occures when water is present in the spot. the resin pushes the water towards the edge of the spot, forming the ring.
My advice, WHEN IN DOUBT, DRY OUT !! You have only one chance to do a quality job and maintain a high standard of work and to protect your name, for every job is your name ! Rather spend an extra 10 minutes and save all the above.

Re: Small ring around repair?
When in doubt dry out I have been shouting that for years but it seems to fall on deaf ears around here. Most of the problems people have is with moisture left in chip or working with uv exposure. Very little else contributes towards a good clean damage failing to repair.
