Help! Liability Insurance...need advice

Post by GlassMagic »

Hello,

I am trying to get my business started and I need advice/info on getting Liability Insurance.

What should I expect for premium cost?
Are there different types of Liability Insurance?
Any insurance co. cheaper than others?
How much Liability Insurance should I get?

I would really appreciate any feedback...I am in the dark with this issue so any information would be so helpful.

Thanks!

I paid $200+ for mine. I believe it is dependent on the area you operate out of. Others have varied as well.

I got my policy through Allstate. I had to talk to about 10 Allstate reps before I found one who knew where to look. Tell them to look under their home based businesses policies. 160 for the year.

I use RLI, as well. Too bad the networks can't take a hint about customer service from RLI. They're Great! Ask for Ashley and tell her Dave sent ya.

RLI is good and cheap...2 things to remember.. if its to good to be true it usually is also...you cant have any other add on business like dent repair pinstriping interior ..paint..... nothing!!! so you are limited to just wr...you are not covered and if you decide to add another service.you have to change ins

You guys make a good point: What happens if you ever have to use your policy? I've got my fingers crossed when I say it's never happened to me. My comments about great service should be taken in that context. Has anybody out there ever had to use their liability insurance in connection with a repair? In 10 years, being in contact with thousands of techs over that time, I've never heard of an instance where a tech had that problem. A search was conducted, by someone I met several years ago, of the http://www.lexisnexis.com database for any litigation against a windshield repair tech and none was found. It might be a good idea for someone to do that search on a regular basis.

Hmmm...I have given it some thought regarding the claims issue.

It could be that any claims alleging damage during windshield repair might be relegated to small claims court. In addition, lawyers may be reluctant to pursue such a claim due to the small compensation that a court might award.

But we need to have the insurance to register with the networks.
