Re: The best way to solicitate work
As I learn to become a better salesman, and believe me, sales is what this business is largely based on, I am learning that, sure some methods work better than others but there is not one best way. You need to size up your target market and then size up the person you are pitching in that market and be able to adapt as needed. Also I, I believe that it is not just one way, but rather saturation via multiple methods of advertising over time that will give you a solid recognition and make you the first shop people think of when they get a stone chip. This also takes time and money. I can't wait until I accomplish this. In the mean time try everything and anything but just get out and try.
I won't go into depth on various methods as Yvan, Coister and Jerimiah and others have contributed a wealth of knowledge in this area. Check out there past posts.

Get your name out to the community. Donate money by others drawing your business, CAR WASHES-Go to the Liquid Resin website and buy sheets of the Repair Me, Stickers Item #565, 8 stickers for 0.45. Look for fund raising car washes, give them stickers and your cards, have them put the name of what their organization is from on each card. Tell them you will donate $5.00, for every repair that was done from their carwash, make sure they check and put the red sticker on the windshield prior to the car being washed. It says REPAIR ME IN RED. People call in for the repairs because they see the little reminder now on their WS everyday, it isn't getting damaged further. Your donating to a good cause, (tax deduction) and it is the cheapest advertising.
When you talk to the person in charge to set this up make sure you provide the education "Most repairs are free, etc..." Also, the importance of the person doing the stickers who is checking the windshields to put sticker on first. Usually, they assign one person to do this, because it is the most profitable fund raiser and advertising. While your sitting home on Saturday.
It helps if you have little flyers to hand out with the stickers besides cards.
Also, TELL THEM TO GIVE ALL THE PEOPLE WITH A CHIP 2 CARDS, one to bring in the house to call you and one to put in the glove compartment while waiting to use later. Always tell people when you give cards out to put them in the glove compartment with their insurance card, not their pocket or wallet. They will know where you are when needed.
