So many Newbies!

Post by StarQuest »

Listen up newbies......if you want to make a successful living in glass repair, please, please and please get the proper training and certification in windsheild repair before you ever hit the road. I've been reading every post on here for almost a year without responding. Now I am! To many of you are entering into this market with little or no experience, which kinda scare's me. The video tape that came with your kit is not experience!!!! You'll need to attend a class or two in windshield repair to understand the basic principles of repair. If your non willing to spend extra to advance your skills by getting proper training, you'll simply lose in this business!

Welcome your feedback!

StarQwest is absolutely correct!

Make it a priority to get your factory training. If you cannot get factory training then seek out a highly experienced tech in our outside your area that is willing to share his or her knowledge and experience.

When I first started out 10 or 11 years ago, all I had was a kit and a video and a ton of desire and tons and tons of practice. Most of my repairs turned out ok, and some turned out exceptional. Once I finally got factory training - it made all the difference in the world. After my training, 99.9% of my repairs were turning out perfect. (There's always that .1% that gives you fitts).

I will say this though... This forum is no substitute for good training, however - because of this forum, I have learned a lot from other experienced techs that have come up with tips and tricks that they have picked up and have graciously shared along the way.

This forum has been a ton of help to me up here in Canada too as this bizz is not as well known up here and demands alot of educating people skills and as I am slowly gaining experience I am getting better as sifting through the questionable posts that pop up on the forums sometimes.

Yeah, what he said!! My training is not coming from class but from individual in biz for about a million years.

Newbies need not fear... The key is just getting out side your comfort zone.
I find that doing the oppisite of what the pros say works best for me ha :) The new people always seem to be the ones to redefine an idustry and thats what our plan is. So if we come knocking on your door say hello.

I like what Trinsic said here. The only thing I might add to that is this...

If you are outside your comfort zone, you must be learning something.

If you are inside your comfort zone, you are probably not learning much.
