This was a great idea Brian....

Service Fee

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well the whether was finally nice enough this week here in PA to actually work. Yesterday I serviced one of my large school accounts with 121 vehicles. It yielded 15 repairs. This number is probably low compared to the west coast potential?

I just thought I would update everyone or anyone who cares what I decided for the service fee for my large fleets. Instead of one lump fee say of $100.00 dollars, I decided to go with a $1.00 per vehicle inspection fee that would be waived on the vehicles that needed repair. I thought this broke it down and would be easier to swallow physiologically. It worked out well and I am glad I charged the fee as it took me just shy of 2 hours to inspect all the vehicles and they were not in one spot. I presented the service agreement too the transportation director, he reviewed and signed it, we shook hands and to work I went. It was a very good day even if it was 100 degrees. And the best part of it is he is putting me in contact with 3 more school districts on top of the three I have. Hopefully they pan out....

Just thought I would share my real world experience with everyone.

Pay it foward,

Brian

I wonder if it will help that I work as a custodian for my local school system. I have often thought of contacting the transportation department but just haven't done it yet LOL I will soon though. Is it normal to charge an inspection fee?

I can't even imagine charging a service fee to my fleet accounts! I only have 6 so far but with a total of nearly 1000 big trucks (of course not all of them are 'in' when I make my rounds) I do walk the lots & I do jump up on a LOT of trucks & yes, it takes some time but it's good excercise! It has never occurred to me to charge them for just 'looking'... that's a service I provide to get the account.

If this pops up twice, I apologize... my post disappeared after I submitted...

As far as trying to obtain school bus accounts... I was told that school admins will not allow windshields to be repaired due to liability repercussions if a kid flies out of a repaired WS. I know that repairing a WS makes it as strong or stronger than one with damage so can anyone give me some good arguing points when addressing schools?

I would think they would have a better chance of flying out of a replaced windshield that wasn't put in properly.

Gwen,

I think your getting the run around! I would've asked them, if they could provide you one documented situation where a child went through the windshield as a direct cause of a windshield being repaired? So far, I've never heard or read of one!
