Delta kits training dvd

Hey everyone! I'm new here and I am wanting to learn how to repair windshields. I live in Georgia which is a ways away from Oregon and thier hands on training. My question is how much can I expect to learn from the Delta kits training dvd? I am in the process of getting some damaged windshields now to practice on. I want to be prepared when I go out to find business. Once I start making enough money I want to get the hands on training but at this time I just can't afford it as I am going through a divorce.Is there anyone here that hasn't had formal hands on training or just the dvd training that is doing this professionally?

I personally haven't been through the training by DKI. But I will tell you though that if you can get the training, do it.

I was originally trained on the job by another company a few years ago. They taught me very wrong the ways of doing windshield repair. Since then I have learned the correct way of doing repairs and everyday I am still learning.

The DVD from DKI is pretty good at giving you the basics and a general idea of what to do. However, there is soo much that cannot be covered in any DVD from any manufacturer that you will come across daily.

As you read through all the posts on here, you will see a very common theme in regards to training. Practice, Practice, Practice and then practice again. Practice in junkyards, practice at home, practice on some of the worst possible chips you can come across. I firmly believe that in doing so you learn what limits you and your equipment have. You also learn what can be repaired or not repaired successfully.

Find a repair tech, not necessarily in your area because of competition, that might take you on some days to see how things run. And how repairs should be done. Or shouldn't be done for that matter if that person sucks.


Ask questions if you get stumped. Read through the posts here and pay special attention to Screenman and Coitster, who come to mind first, and the things they have to say.

Thanks for the reply and all the info.I sat down last night to come up with a way to get the training.I remembered that I have about $2000 freed up on a credit card and I am considering taking the plunge and using that to buy the equipment and a plane ticket to Oregon.

WAYNE, there is no replacement for proper training. the Delta DVD is good, but it will take you very long to do the work like a pro. After a 3 day practical course you'll be in business. And you can start earning money. Remember you have only one chance to do a proper job. You can't redo a mess !! And you can't practice on the customers cars. When you start this business you must have confidence in youself and your work. DON'T DAMAGE YOUR MARKET !!AND YOUR NAME !!

Training allows you to shorten your start up learning curve in an envioronment where you can be watched and guided. You will be able to get answers to any questions you might have with a verbal response. A video cannot provide this student/teacher hands on setting. You will leave there knowing what a quality repair should look like and have the basic skills to perform them.

If you have no choice but to utilize the DVD, do yourself a favor and practice until you can honestly say WOW that came out great about your repairs before you start trying to it on customers windshields. If you can not determne what a quality repair is, utilize the DK FREE support. Jeff/Matt will steer you in the right diection.

Can I add unless you live in a area where it never rains and nobody ever washes their car. Try filling those practise chips with water before you start the repair procedure. Unfortunately not many if any training videos tell us about this little bit.

Sipi1910, check to see if Delta Kits is going to have training in January at Mobile Tech Show. A day's drive and cost of training may be better than an airline ticket and hotel stay.
