Liability vrs Shop Keepers

Post by rottdawg »

Hello All,

Do any of the techs who work out of a shop run with something other then liability insurance? I was told I may need a shop keepers type of insurance if I am pulling customers cars in and out of shop bays. What do you folks do who work in this type of situation?

I believe if you are Mobile Only, then liability is all you need.
If you have a shop where your customers vehicles are being worked on, then you will need Garage Keepers insurance.

RLI does not offer a shop keepers line. Does anybody have any recommendations?

I would highly recommend garage keepers insurance if you move a customers vehicle. That's all the coverage is for....if while moving a customers vehicle you hit something or someone hits you. Commercial liability would not cover those accidents. Garage keepers insurance is not meant to be coverage if you work in or out of a garage! Big misconception.
I'd advise you to call your local agent to verify.
