Delta\'s Mobile Battery System.
Delta's Mobile Battery System.
On Delta Kits new Mobile Battery System, does anybody know how long the charge should last? And how long should I charge it for(does it shut off to prevent overcharge). I don't want to damage my new toy!

Re: Delta's Mobile Battery System.
When you first get the battery you should charge it for 10 hours.
We recommend a charge every 25 repairs if you are using a moisture evaporator and a light for each repair. If you are only using a light, re-charge after 50 repairs for optimal battery life.
If you follow these recommendations, you will only be depleting the battery by about 50% before re-charging, so you will only need a 4 hour charge to properly maintain the battery. Again, this practice is for optimal battery life. You won't blow the battery up by leaving it plugged in, but you will shorten the working life.
If you completely deplete the battery, you will need another 10 hour charge, but completely depleting the battery, and/or charging for more than 4 hours at a time on a regular basis will shorten the battery life.
We have been selling these batteries and chargers for several years now, and had very few problems when customers follow the charging instructions with the included charger.
We recently began selling a battery maintainer that will monitor the battery's need for charging, and only charge when necessary. Using the new charger you can leave the battery plugged in every night without shortening the battery life.
We have tested a number of brands of battery maintainers over the past few years, with mixed results, but the one we offer now works extremely well. I use it for my motorcycles, camper, and boat, in addition to my kit battery, so I'm always ready to roll.
This product is not on the website or in the catalogue yet, but is available upon request.
Hope this helps.

Re: Delta's Mobile Battery System.
Look on the bright side, prices are going up the first part of the year (the first increase in several years), so you could upgrade your charger to a charger/maintainer, and still pay less than a new kit will cost when the new charger/maintainers are included. We just got the new product in, and have not sold a single unit yet.
I probably jumped the gun a bit by mentioning the new product before the actual new product release, but I like forum users to have an advantage whenever possible, and I am very excited about this product.
Keep in mind, there is nothing wrong with the old chargers. As long as you follow the directions you are in good shape. Still, I understand your point. I bought a new car at the end of 2005, and about 2 days later the company announced that they were offering the new "2007" model with several improvements, including a new body style. I'm still not sure what happened to 2006. Can you say depreciation!

$36.00 until the end of the year. Prices after that have not been established, but they will be going up.
