orbital prevents burning the plastic... it can happen very quickly with a high speed rotary sander, and the damage can be bad too.

Sometimes orbital seems too slow, too tame to me. I kinda use a mix of all types depending on what mood I'm in I guess. By hand, orbital, drill...

Bois: what 3M pads? As a backer pad or are they actually the abrasive media?

GS, I also see some lights that must be sanded.... polishing would take a LONG time to get it done, and even the trizact pad would not cut it on some.

This isn't to say that you can't do em all without sanding, but some of them will look better in the end if you do.

my feeling on the bad ones is replacements are cheap in most cases obviosly not for the high line cars but the average neon isnt worth my time doing the fix. customer can pop in a new one for less than im gonna charge him

Yes I am aware that chemical fallout/sand /gravel ect plays a factor in your pits .According to vehical manufacturers most apply a u/v shield on their lens to guard from only one thing.U/V damage.( a thin outer coating on factory lens) So its not the sand salt that starts deterioration on a lens but the U/V.The sand and salt justs continues the process(or helps start it).I lived in the N/east for 25 years and have never seen the extent of damage as there is in the south.By the way its great to be able to work in shorts 10 months out of the year!!!!!!!!!

GlassStarz...most hl aver 150.00 each!! dodge neon hl list for over 200.00 each..http://www.levineautoparts.com will list all the cars hl cost and his reduced price which is around 177.00 each for neon..you will be surprised at some of the prices..very few are under 50.00 each. so cleaning hl will save a lot of money.. i did a dodge neon last week and the guy was very happy because he checked online and said they were 220.00 each

also you have to figure the shop bill on these replacements.At 65-85.00 per hour labor rates that will add much more expence.Ya gotta love those lens$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

The 3m pad is for your final buff/polish after getting the lens smooth with 1500 paper. Its a sponge pad with dimples that holds the compound media.Looks and feels like glass if done right.

I use an orbital sander that came with my Dvelup system but only on heavy corrosion (sp?). I find the high speed and orbital action difficult to control and have damaged the plastic on occassion because the sanding disk (Dvelup's) came loose. At the suggestion of Dvelup, I cut up 3M pads (red, grey & white) into circles and attach to the sander. This helps prevent damage due to hand control.

Question. Why use an orbital sander and not a regular rotary sander?

Bois, get yourself some quality equipment and your headaches will end.The stuff they send you from Dvelup is Harbor Freight (look on line) that they have modified for sale to the unsuspecting end user/The buffer they sell for 135.00 is for sale from Harbor Freight for 29.99 all of the time.The sander is from the same source 19.99 - 29.99 depending on their sales at that time.They market it under the Central Electric logo ect.I know because I have seen the Dvelup equipment and bought the same buffer when I 1st got into lens.Do a /little home work and you will be very happy what you find out there online.The Dvelup chemicals are good but the equipment sucks.If you go to 3m sanding discs /buff pads/interface pads you will see a big difference in production and end results.Just helping because when I started nobody would tell me what they used.Didnt take long to catch on though.
