Actually, Brain is right!
A few of my RV accounts provide Diamon Fusion services. They get $600-$800 for Class A motorhomes. The equipment they use is somewhat expensive and you have to be a licensed dealer. Does it work? Well, the few customers I've talked to swear by it and repair sales have dropped by 50% at these RV dealers since it's introduction 2 years ago. Do I see the average consumer spending $300 at the dealerships for Diamon Fusion on personal vehicles? Maybe a few with high end vehicles but most likely not many.
Here's the link, if your interested in learning more about their nanotechnology process.

kenb81,
A glass tinter buddy of mine just got a sample of Madico Clear Plex and applied it to his windshield. Pretty cool product! Have to remember although Madico states it's scratch resistant, it will still scratch like any other film and is also subject to UV and chemical degradation. (which means because it is a plastic, like all plastics..... it will eventually start to break down). How long will it last?
I'd say maybe a couple years at best than would have to be stripped and reapplied. Nice add on for the tint shops!

StarQuest,
Thanks for the compliment but I am hardly a brain but not as dumb as a box of rocks either.

Have you herd any feedback from your accounts on the diamond fusion? I have herd mixed reports on it really working and have not read good things on the science of nanotechnology in general in different journals. Primarily stating health concerns from nano formulated products. Who knows...got to die from something.

Re: Protective Coating?
This product sounds like it could really cut into revenues if it goes big time.I wonder if it yellows or becomes hazy over time??

Oops! Sorry Brian,
I was only on my second cup of coffee when I wrote that post:icon_roll
As far as future health issues with nanotechnology applications who really knows if prolonged exposure to technicians will cause any problems. I quess only time will tell.
I must admit after viewing the Diamon-Fusion process I was somewhat taken. They used what closely resembled an Arc Welder with Argon gas feed attached to glass dome type fixture. That was 2 years ago, not sure what process they use currently. On the sales technical end, I'm sure they sold this service to quite a few RV owners where money isn't really of much concern. Many of these Class A motorhomes go for over $400,000, so $600 is a drop in the bucket for many of them to try something new and advanced!

Re: Protective Coating?
toab,
My buddy has tried to sale Clear Plex in his tint shop for the last month @ $125 per shield but has had only a few takers. I wouldn't worry much about Madico's window treatment affecting the repair industry. It's one of those preventative windshield sales add on's....that most will not be willing to spend extra money on.
I did happen to get some samples for testing on my practice shields. I'll let you know how they perform after subjecting them to daily UV lamps, bug cleaners and other windshield cleaning chemical products.
I guess the bigger question is, are outer windshield coatings safe for the consumer? Not sure, have to research that futher.
