Post by guitardood99x »

Hi,
Right now im not doin to good. I cant seem to get any new fleets or car lots and im not getting enough referals... maybe cuz its the holidays but its been this way since the beginin of the month... my question is should i just go out to a busy part of town aka wal-mart or maybe other retail areas walk the parkinglots look for customers at there cars with chips in them and bother them about a repair?
Thanks

hey matt..how many times have you been to the same lot??sometimes it takes a while before they let you in ...and fleets ..what was their response?? totaly negative or come back later??? partly because of the holidays..but you have to take rejection..pick yourself up and put a smile on your face and hit them again...after christmas...it will be a new year soon and a fresh new start.don't get discouraged!!!!..it will come if you do your part

guitardood99x,

This is the reality of the business. I am not sure how long you have been at it but learning how to repair is the easy part. Sales and getting those accounts is the hard part for most. Not all but most. For me it is. This really is not projected by the tooling suppliers for obvious reasons when you are considering WSR and there equipment and supplies. They paint a profit picture that is very tempting and possible as well. It takes a lot of determination and persistance. This is definately not a get rich quick deal but you can make real good money.

I agree with MrChip as well. It took multiple visits to some of our dealerships and now as I try to build the fleet accounts it is also taking multiple visits as well. Do not let the rejection deter you from trying. You can do it. It is also the holiday season which probably has a little to do with it. Stone chips are not the first thing on people minds normally and at this time of year it is even worse. Keep your chin up and keep pushing.

In my 20+ yrs in the car business I have watched many new guys try to land car lots and the following list is just a sample of failures there are many more
1. Guy walks in talks to the receptionist or a salesman instead of asking for the used car mgr, result wasted time and looked unprofessional because they didnt even have the common sense to ask for the right person
2. Guy walks in introduces himself and proceeds to tell the mgr the many advantages of WR and offers to do a sample, Guess what folks they know the advantages and you not realizing that to work up to mgr they have seen a dozen WR people means you havnt been in the business long and dont have a clue
3. You go inside without already walking the lot and made a list of whats out there, Once again time is money and they have very little time for you.
4. You dont show up more than once and if you actually do stumble into a customer dont show up on a regular schedule.
5. Once you have lined up an account you spend a great deal of time telling the guy what you did and all the obsticles you over came once again he doesnt care and you not only look unprofessional but chewed up some of his valuable time.
6. you walk in looking like some guy off the street you dont have a shirt or jacket clearly labeled making you look fly by night
7. You give the guy your card (if you have any) and dont follow up and expect him to call when he needs you guess what he has no time to walk the lot and see if he needs WR done thats the job of whatever WR person he is useing and since you couldnt spend the time trying to earn his business why should he bother?

The Car Business is a place to earn alot of $ but its $ you have to earn it and regardless of your abilities as a WR tech if you cant SELL give it up and go back to that hourly pay job you used to have hope I havnt hurt anyones feelings but what the hey live and learn
