Moisture Evaporator

Lots of talk regarding use of the evaporator.

Heat the device until the element glows...then place it over the damaged area. Do you hold the button down for the 20 seconds or do you release the button while allowing the heat to dissipate? This is a little confusing..it does not indicate when you release the activating button.

I was told to hold the button down against the glass for the 20 seconds. I would practice a few times on a scrap peice of glass. I am always a little scetchy about heating the glass that much.

A moisture evaporator is great tool but needs to be used with caution. This is what works great for us. Let the element heat up, continue holding the button in, place element just barely over the windshield-NOT ON:eusa_naug , hold in place or move around for twenty seconds depending on your needs, remove element and continue holding button in and let damage cool off a some, repeat if necessary till all moisture is gone.

Some may have other methods but this is what has always worked for me.

The way I was told to use it is to put a spot mirror on the inside, then (after drilling the damaged area as usual) put the evaporator over the chip and press the button until you can see the element glowing in the mirror. Now release button and count to ten while keeping the tool on the chip. When the chip cools down you're ready to fix it, or if there's a lot of moisture contamination repeat the process.
