Long Cracks and Fleets

I was speaking to a repairs manager with Enterprise today trying to obtain my first fleet, they already had someone that serviced them, but besides the point I heard a new objection. He said that repairing cracks over six inches would be a liability to them and pose too much risk. Are there any techs that repair long cracks for fleets, and secondly was he being serious or just trying to get rid of me by saying that long crack repair was too much of a liability for a fleet company. Just wondering if there are any tests or research that has been done on the strength of completed long crack repairs.

Sounds like a quack to me. How can the man refuse a money back guarantee?

I think we would all agree that a 24" crack, even when properly repaired, is more likely to continue running than a bullseye. I doubt he was being truthful about liability (even though insurance companies have about the same guidleines for repair -v- replace..) .... but perhaps his thought was, "I know repairs sometimes fail and if a crack fails and runs in front of the driver's view and causes the driver to wreck and her children die as a result..."? Oops, perhaps they will sue me too because I offered a legal opinion without being a member of the bar... shamn on me! :)

of course he was being serios cracks repaired may look better but obviosly they are not as structuraly sound as a unbroken windshield The same argument is there with a poorly replaced windshield if the thing pops out in an accident someones gettin sued

Yeah, I am fairly new... some companies (OK, all companies) brag about their system being able to repair long cracks while no other company can do it as well. Truth? The best of the best repaired 18" crack on a windshield that is in )-F weather is still quite weak and may crack when the defroster is turned on high.... right?:)

One of the reasons most companies do not recommend repairing long cracks is because their resins can't hold up to the stress's involved. A long crack has many times the stress as a chip. If you are going to fix long cracks you must use a very thick resin otherwise they won't hold. I had to switch up to thicker resins because regular chip resin just doesn't work. :(

I do long cracks every day using Magnibond no problems most of the time. Dry out and technique is very important.
33,000 + screen repairs over 18 years and still learning.

Screenman,
I don't mean to oppose you on this post. However I have used Magnibond for long crack repair and when I did the crack it looked great. However 3 and 4 months later I would see the crack again and it looked like it had never been fixed. I am not saying that it can't work. However I had a rather high failure rate. Over 50%. Its a great chip resin but not a good crack resin.

Which resin would you recommend for long crack repair?

None recomended here lots of chips out there no reason to do cracks for me if its 4-6" thats the limit not worth my time
